Since the establishment of the 3rd Monday of January as a National holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, his family has consistently urged Americans to remember the man and his work by dedicating themselves to service. Making it a day on, not a day off.
The first Metro Community-Wide Day of Service will do just that. The goal is to gather community members from across the city who will, for one afternoon, join in serving the needs of other community members: the elderly, people with disabilities, children, people who are homeless or hungry.
Through this effort some small part of the needs of these people may be met. And some small part of the heart and life of each volunteer may be changed.
